Our Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) are caught in the Great Australian Bight with a Purse Seine net. The live caught Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) are then transferred to the towing cage and are brought back by the towing vessel to our farm site. To maintain a high standard of quality our experienced staff oversee the catching and towing operations at all stages.
We view towing to be one of our most crucial parts of the operation. We ensure that our fish arrive to the farm site in good condition, which allows us to continually improve the quality.
Once the fish arrive to our site they are then transferred to the holding cages. The use of our purpose built vessel allows us to transfer fish quickly and efficiently to minimize stress and maintain high quality
Our farm site is situated in the deep, clean and pristine waters east of Port Lincoln in the Offshore Zone. Sarin Marine Farm SMF is currently the only company farming in the Offshore zone.
Sarin Marine Farm SMF is committed to maintaining a clean site and continually monitors the water quality under our environmental policy.
We regard feeding of Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) as the most crucial part of our operation. Our fish Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) are fed a variety of small pelagic species. To produce premium quality Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT), we source only high quality bait and continually monitor fish behavior on a daily basis. We formulate a diet to maximize the result in quality.
To ensure our entire feeding system runs effectively and efficiently, Sarin Marine Farm SMF has adapted a feeding regime, which is directed by David Sarin and managed by our general manager in conjunction with our feed skippers.
Our Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) are harvested in the winter months when they are at their optimum quality. During harvest our Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) are bled, gilled and gutted. Our senior staff are involved in the whole process to make sure that our Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) are handled hygienically and quickly. Our harvest process is designed to minimize the time from when the fish are caught out of the water until placed into the iced slurry bins.
Sarin Marine Farm SMF is committed to offering our customers a high quality product under the SMF brand name. Currently our products are delivered to our customers in two forms: fresh chilled Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) (bled, gilled and gutted) and super frozen Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) (bled, gilled and gutted).
The fresh products are transported to overseas by air directly, and super frozen products are shipped either by freezer boat or refer container with storage temperature set at approximately -60 degrees.
